with 24,000 acres and 112 miles of shoreline, comprising the towns of Deer Isle and Stonington and outlying islands.

Island Heritage Trust is a community-based, non-profit land trust contributing to the well-being of the island community by conserving its distinctive landscape and natural resources, maintaining public access to valued trails, shoreline and islands, and by providing educational programming for all ages.

We will hear from Terrence Finnegan, the eclipsecoordinator for the Gulf of Maine Research Institute to talk about the April8th Solar Eclipse in Maine. Terrence will discuss the science behind eclipses,the best places to view the eclipse, and future eclipses. 

    Terence is an educator with a passion for inspiringwonder in the world around us and fostering curiosity in learners of all ages.Terence finds joy in creating engaging and inclusive learning environmentswhere students are empowered to be the center of their own learning. Terencestarted his educational journey in the UK, working for informal scienceeducation institutions in Northern Ireland and Scotland, and is excited to becontinuing this work in Maine. He believes in the transformative power ofeducation to shape the future and is dedicated to equipping educators with thetools and resources they need to thrive in an evolving educational landscape.

    Join The Town of Stonington and Island Heritage Trust at Settlement Quarry Preserve for a viewing of the Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8. The eclipse begins at 3:30pm, so feel free to arrive early to find a spot.

    Viewing glasses will be provided by the Town of Stonington.

    Feel free to bring a blanket or chairs for viewing comfort.

    A car will be available to help transport those who need accessibility support to the top of the quarry.

    There are no facilities at Settlement Quarry.
